13 Killed As Vehicle Falls Into Gorge In Shimla

SHIMLA -- Thirteen persons were killed and another injured when the vehicle they were travelling in rolled down into a 300-foot deep gorge near Bada Kamba on Chaura Kamba link road in tribal Kinnaur district, police said today.

The 14 occupants of the vehicle were returning late last night after leaving a newly wedded woman at her in-laws' place when the tragedy struck, about 250 km from there, they said.

Twelve persons died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital while the lone survivor jumped out of the falling vehicle, police said.

The brother of the bride and the vehicle's driver were also killed, they said.

The district administration reached the spot and all the bodies have been recovered and sent for postmortem.

The vehicle was "overcrowded" and cause of accident is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Meanwhile, three more persons who were injured when a private bus yesterday fell in a nulla in Chamba district, succumbed to their injuries in the hospital raising the death toll to 17, police said.
