Stray Dog Bounces Into IPL Match, Brings The Game To A Grinding Halt

It was a hilarious sight to behold when an Indian Premier League match between the Rising Pune Supergiants and the Delhi Daredevils was interrupted because a lively mutt bounced into the field.

Looking happy and eager to play, the stray dog caused an uproar of laughter in the crowd even as the confused cricketers wondered where it came from and what to do with it.

The dog sat in the middle of the giant Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam and started rolling around in the grass, wagging its tail.

Taking the situation in his stride, Delhi Daredevils' Chris Morris tried to usher the gatecrasher away from the field and near the stands; two members of the ground staff came charging towards the dog, who then took off in the opposite direction.

Australian cricketer and Morris's teammate Nathan Coulter-Nile also got a chance to play the matador as he tried to stop the running dog with a big blue towel.

This is not the first time a stray dog has loitered into a sports area in India and disturbed the players.

Earlier this week, Ethiopian runner Mule Wasihun's 10-kilometre marathon was spoilt as a stray dog kept chasing him. Wasihun almost lost his balance once when the dog came between his legs, trying to outrun him.

In 2011, India was forced to halt its first Formula 1 practice session when two stray dogs ran onto the Buddh International Circuit.
