The police have recovered a suicide note from his pocket, police said.

It was around 7:15 AM that Verma's body was found hanging from a tree located between Rail Bhawan and the media parking centre near Vijay Chowk, close to Parliament.

An inquest has been initiated into the matter.

Efforts are on to contact his relatives, police added.

In the 23-page note recovered from Verma's pocket, he claimed that he was under immense financial crunch and had undergone tremendous losses in betting during the IPL tournament.

Verma, who lived in a rented accommodation in north Delhi's Kotwali area, specifically mentioned how much he owed to bookies and the total amount exceeded a crore, an official privy to the investigation said.

"Probe under Section 174 of CrPC is underway. The contents in the note are also being investigated," DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal said.
