NEW DELHI -- The governing council of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has decided to sever its ties with the organisation's former chief RK Pachauri, according to reports. His term as a member of the GC ended in March, according to TERI officials, and it has not been extended, leading to a premature termination of his employment contract with TERI as well, which expired only in 2017. He headed TERI for 35 years.

"Dr. Pachauri’s term as a Member of the Governing Council of TERI ended on March 31, 2016," TERI told The Hindu in an emailed response. "As the post of Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) is co-terminus with this membership, his role as EVC also ended along with his membership of the Council.”

The council, in a meeting earlier this week, reportedly decided to pay all dues to Pachauri for the remainder of his employment contract. They had elevated him to the post of executive vice-chairman just a couple of months ago, despite serious allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him by a younger female colleague.

HuffPost India has reached out to both RK Pachauri as well as TERI for a response. Pachauri is currently outside the country, travelling to multiple cities in the United States of America and Mexico, largely for professional engagements. He is said to be giving lectures and presentations in his capacity as a climate scientist and former chief of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). None of these are connected to his previous role in TERI. Next month, he is expected to travel to the United Kingdom for similar work.

He is, as of Thursday, still listed on the TERI website as executive vice chairman (on leave).
