Vivo, the main sponsors of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have launched two new smartphones -- V3 and V3 max -- in India. The phones are priced at ₹17980 and ₹23980 respectively.
At an event in Mumbai, the Chinese manufacturer launched V3 max and V3 along with the IPL trophies in the presence of Rajeev Shukla, the chairman of the IPL. V3 max has a 5.5 inch full HD screen with 2.5D Corning Gorilla glass. It runs on 1.8 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 . It has a battery capacity of 3000mAh and a RAM of 4 GB.
The V3 has a smaller 5 inch full HD screen with 2.5D Corning Gorilla glass. It runs on 1,7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 . And it has a battery capacity of 2550 mAh.
Both the phones have quick charging 2.0 with dual charging chips. The company is claiming that the with just 5 minutes of charging, a user can enjoy 2.5 hours of music. On the rear of the phone, there is a 13 MP camera and a fingerprint sensor which takes 0.2s to unlock the phone as per the company. Internal memory is 32 GB and the front camera is 8 GB. The cameras have Phase Detection Auto Focus technology (PDAF). One of the highlights of the Vivo phones has been Hi-Fi audio ha
The phones feel like any other mid-range phone with a very uninspiring design even with the metal body at the back. The phone is available in just two colours -- gold and rose gold -- to represent the flashy side the company.
They run on Android 5.1.1 which is disappointing for a phone launching almost 6 months after Android Marshmallow 6.0 was announced. The company has added a layer of customization with FunTouch 2.5. They have added something called smart split which is essentially the split screen mode for apps but the functionality is very limited. You can't select any app and use them in split screen mode. Vivo has carried on the recent Chinese tradition of not having an app launcher.
Both the phones are priced aggressively and will face a lot of competition. V3 max has giant competitors in Nexus 5x and recently launched Mi 5. On the other hand, V3 will have to tackle OnePlus 2 and Qiku Q Terra. Vivo has roped in Ranveer Singh as the brand ambassador. Also, the IPL promotion might help them with the sales of the two smartphones.
