NIA Officer Shot Dead In Uttar Pradesh, Wife Critically Injured

BIJNOR -- An officer from the National Investigation Agency, Tanzil Ahmad, was shot dead while his wife was injured by bike-borne assailants. He, along with his family, was returning from the wedding of a relative in the wee hours.

"He along with his wife was returning from the wedding of his niece when two unidentified bike-borne persons stopped his car and shot at him. He was declared dead at a nearby hospital," Rajkumar, SHO, Bijnor, said.

According to NDTV reports, Mohd Tanzil's brother, Raghib Ahmed, said the officer was shot at 21 times and his wife sustained four bullet injuries, adding "he had no enmity against anyone, he was a friendly cheerful person".

His wife sustained injuries in the attack and has been admitted to a hospital in Noida. However, the couple's children, who were also with them in the car, were unhurt.

The official had gone to his home town Bijnor to attend the wedding.

The Police are said to be investigating the matter.

Mr Tanzeel was from Border Security Force and had joined NIA on deputation six years ago.
