The increasing reach of the internet and social media has become a game changer for marketing and public relations. With the advent of "likes" and "followers", it's not surprising that online popularity can now be bought — the pay-per-like market reportedly fetches about $200 million a year.

This is the subject of a new documentary up on The Intercept, where filmmaker Garrett Bradley explores the multi-million dollar industry that has developed to grow social media following for celebrities and brands.

These 'click farms' have grown in Bangladesh, where the industry is not illegal. But the documentary leaves you with an important question — "If a "like" is so valuable, but so cheap to collect at the same time, what is the value of a "like"? Watch the full nine-minute documentary above.
