While Vijay Mallya was tweeting on Friday about being hounded by the media, his officials were facing the heat from Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Mallya's lawyers have informed he Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that he will be returning to India by the end of the month. However, the ED has demanded he appears before them before 18 March, reported DNA.
In fact, according to IANS, the ED also questioned a senior executive of Kingfisher Airlines as part of its probe. Mallya is accused of defaulting in the repayment of Rs 900 crore loan he had taken from the IDBI Bank.
The summons were issued on the day when A Raghunathan, a former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the grounded Kingfisher Airlines, appeared before ED investigators at its office in the Ballard Pier in Mumbai.
Sources told DNA that in a circular issued on 16 October, 2015 CBI had requested that Mallya be detained at the exit point itself, if he tries leaving the country. Nearly a month later in November, the agency asked for a revised circular where it asked the Bureau of Immigration (BoI) to inform it about Mallya's departure and travel plans.
Mallya travelled abroad in October and returned in November, while he made two trips in first and last week of December and also in January, besides the recent trip reportedly to London on 2 March, reported PTI.
According to media reports, Mallya has currently sought refuge in his country house on the outskirts of London. His reputation preceded him at the Tiwen village in Hertfordshire where his "secret" country home Ladywalk stands.
