WATCH: How These Plus Size Indian Brides Are Shattering Stereotypes

“An average Indian girl is not a skinny girl. And when you go to designers, the outfits are just for skinny girls.”

If you’re a new bride or have already walked down that path, you’ll enjoy this narrative on curvy Indian dulhans and their very real conundrums on fitting societal standards of body image.

Just in time for Women’s Day, Indian wedding portal wedmegood.com turned the spotlight on five women and everything that comes along with being a plus-size bride in India.

While the country’s first plus-sized model Shivani voiced her opinions on how it was impossible to find just regular clothes, let alone an Indian designer who would create something for a plus-sized figure, Tanvi, a nutritionist who lost 20 kg, hit the nail on the head with this statement:

“The girl has to be perfect. The boy can be any size, any complexion, anything.”

Every woman in the video agreed on two things. The first: it takes confidence, not weight loss to make a beautiful dulhan. And two: nothing's worth the pain of separation from their first love -- food.
