ETAH -- A 27-year-old Dalit man was charred to death after he was set on fire in his house at Kherpura village here by some people who are absconding, police said today.

Santosh Kumar was sleeping on a heap of dry grass yesterday when the accused persons, identified as Bobby and his associates, set the hay on fire, according to the police.

The man was charred to death by the time the family members came to his rescue, police said.

The father of the deceased lodged an FIR yesterday in this connection, stating an old enmity to be the motive behind the murder, they said.
