MUZAFFARNAGAR -- The main accused has been arrested in connection with the gangrape of a 14-year-old girl, who was rehabilitated along with her family after the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, police said today.

Zulfam, son of a former Gram Pradhan, who was absconding since the incident, was arrested yesterday, Circle Officer Nishank Sharma said.

Two other accused, Shahrukh and Juned, have already been arrested.

The girl was allegedly gangraped by the three youths when she was returning home on 29 January, according to the complaint lodged by the victim's brother.

The victim's family members were also allegedly beaten up by the accused when they protested against the incident.

The family was rehabilitated to Ambeta village from Baghpat district after the Muzaffarnagar riots in 2013.
