KOLKATA -- In a humanitarian gesture, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday took a youth, injured in a road accident, in her convoy vehicle after stopping the fleet and making arrangements to rush him to a hospital.

The incident happened at around 2 PM today when the youth Prasenjit Kundu (28) fell down on the road after his bike was hit by a taxi from behind near Rani Rashmoni Avenue, a senior police officer said.

The Chief Minister, who was passing by the area around that time, saw Kundu lying on road, promptly took him in a car of her convoy before admitting him to SSKM hospital, they said.

The taxi driver was arrested later.

Kundu was discharged from the hospital after treatment.
