You can say it runs in the family. After Priyanka Chopra earned accolades, and some brickbats for trying to establish herself as a singer, cousin Parineeti Chopra has followed in her steps for an upcoming movie.

On Tuesday, Yash Raj Films announced a new film called 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' which will feature Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead.

The announcement was in the form of a video. And, no it wasn't your usual teaser. In this one, Parineeti Chopra, standing in the front the mirror, sings a few lines of a song from the movie.

“Maana ke hum yaar nahin/ yeh taiy hai ke pyaar nahin/ phir bhi nazren na tum milana/ dil ka aitbaar nahin,” Parineeti sings to announce her first film in over a year, co-starring, in her words, her “singer-buddy” Ayushmann Khurrana.

Must admit, the lady can hold her notes.

The film’s title 'Meri Pyaari Bindu' pays homage to Kishore Kumar’s song from the film Padosan (1968). It has been co-produced by Manish Sharma and will be directed by new director Akshay Roy.

Parineeti's singing in the movie is not really a sudden decision. The actress said in an in interview that she is a trained Hindustani-classical singer and has been waiting to sing in her movie for a really long time.

"I have been singing from childhood. My father put me on to a music guru from childhood," she said. She, in fact, has a BA Hons degree in music.

And if you were to think it's all in the genes, you are right.

While Priyanka had said that her 'incredible singer' father had been her biggest influence, Parineeti says that she too has inherited the singing genes from her father.
