On Monday, RK Pachauri took over as executive vice-chairman of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a promotion from his earlier post as Director General of the think tank. Pachauri's promotion was announced last November, when the governing council decided to give him a senior executive role despite the incoming director general Ajay Mathur voicing his apprehensions that Pachauri's presence would affect the "independent functioning" of the organization.
Here are the members of the TERI governing council, which includes luminaries in India as well as abroad, who decided to promote the 76-year-old man who is under police investigation following serious charges of sexual harassment at work against him. He was also found guilty by the organisation's internal investigation. Another researcher recently filed a police complaint saying he was being pressurised by senior officials for help in getting the original sexual harassment case settled out of court.
