Lord Rama is facing legal action in Sitamarhi, North Bihar for misconduct against women.
Lawyer Thakur Chandan Kumar Singh filed a case in the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) alleging that Ram had banished his wife Sita to a life in exile without a valid reason and should be brought to the books for the same, reported Hindustan Times.
According to Singh, the fact that he banished Sita despite her undergoing the test of the holy fire to prove her chastity, is a non-cognisable offence.
“The Devi was exiled (given ‘vanvasa’) for no fault of hers. It was a hypocritical order from King Rama. How can a man become so cruel to his wife that he sends he off to live in a forest,” said Singh in his complaint. “Lord Rama did not think for a single moment how a woman could live alone amid wild animals, including reptiles and mammals, in the forest,” he said, also adding he did not wish to hurt anybody’s religious sentiment.
The CJM has agreed to take up the matter for hearing on February 1.
