Jail Inmates In Karnataka Get Rewarded With Dance Show For Good Behaviour, Officials In Soup

Jail authorities seem to have a discovered a new way to reward inmates for their good behaviour--by entertaining them with some dance shows.

On the occasion of Republic Day, Vijayapura Central Jail authorities brought in women dancers to perform for the inmates.

According to reports, the Karnataka Government has now suspended two officials of the prison and a policeman after television news channels aired footage of a woman dancing for the inmates.

Director General of Police (Prisons) Satyanarayana Rao said a police team from Bengaluru will investigate the incident and find out who organised the show.

Rao also said that prison officials would be warned against committing such mistakes in the future.

An ANI report states that the prison authorities arranged two dance girls from Mumbai to 'reward' the prisoners for their 'good behaviour'.

In a video that has been doing rounds of all major national news channels, a woman is seen dancing as the viewers are throwing currency notes at her.

Jail superintendent PS Ambekar is now facing the heat of the storm, as he was in charge of the Republic Day function on 26 January.

The entertainment programme was held before the formal function in which district in-charge Minister MB Patil and deputy commissioner participated.

The formal Republic Day programme was held at 3 pm on Tuesday during which 38 inmates were released.
