A 20-year-old woman ended her life in Mumbai by hanging herself in her house. Though the woman has not left behind a suicide note, her family alleged that she committed suicide because she couldn't bear the pain she was going through while menstruating.
The incident occurred at Ulhasnagar under Shivaji Nagar police station in Mumbai.
According to a report on mid-day, Sonal Gaverner hailed from a very poor family. She had to drop out of school because of financial trouble in the past. Her mother worked as a domestic help.
Gaverner's mother and sister had gone to attend a religious function. When they returned, they found her hanging in her room.
S Salunkhe PSI and investigating officer in the case told mid-day, "The family is very poor. Her mother stated that the victim would suffer excessive bleeding during her period, which depressed her immensely. According to the statements of the neighbours and family members, the victim committed suicide due to this depression."
