Samsung Launches Gear S2 SmartWatch And Gear VR HeadSet In India

Samsung India on Thursday announced their newest smartwatch -- Gear S2 -- starting at Rs 24,300 and their Virtual Reality headset -- Gear VR -- at Rs 8,200 for India.

Samsung Gear S2 is Samsung's latest offering in smartwatch announced last year. The smartwatch has 360 x 360 pixels of round display with no auto-brightness control like Moto 360. It runs a 1.0 GHz dual core processor and hosts a 512 MB RAM. The smartwatch runs an improved version of Samsung's own operating system Tizen and has 4 GB of internal storage for apps and files.

"Gear S2 is a true testimony to our commitment to provide great design and experience in the wearable world. The circular UI and rotating Bezel is in the forefront of the product. We have kept optimum user experience in the mind while implementing the product,” said Manu Sharma, Director of Marketing, IT and Mobile at Samsung India.

There will be two versions of the smartwatch that will be made available in India. First is Gear S2 which is sporty in style. Gear S2 will be available in Dark Grey and Silver Case with 3 options of bands. This version is priced at Rs 24,300.

Second is more traditional watch-like design dubbed as Gear S2 classic. Which is available in a black case with Grey and Brown leather bands as options. This version is priced at Rs.25,800. Both of them are available from today on Flipkart and Samsung Retail Channels.

Samsung Gear VR is a considerable upgrade of the VR experience if you have tried Google Cardboard. It is powered by your smartphone, but the catch is that only selected Galaxy smartphones are compatible with the device. Samsung has partnered with the virtual reality giant Oculus Rift to shape this device.

“Priced at Rs 8200, Samsung Gear VR is ought to give you and immersive experience in Gaming and Videos,” Sharma said. For the content all the YouTube 360 videos will be available for watching. The user can also download content from the Oculus Store.

Samsung claimed that there are more than 150+ games available for Gear VR. They added that Gear VR is also great for the movie watching with different modes like Cinema, 3D, multi-screen etc.

Gear VR will be available on Flipkart and all the Samsung retail channels.
