Microsoft has had a busy week. The company announced that the HoloLens, its prototype holographic computer that runs on Windows 10, has a battery life of 5.5 hours and can connect to any device that uses WiFi and Bluetooth.
Mircosoft started to allow people to see HoloLens in action at their New York flagship store in December. They wanted to collect more feedback on the product before they planned a consumer launch.
Till now little was known about HoloLens, the company's augmented reality device that blends high-definition holograms with real life environments, in terms of the specs and price. But in a video at an event in Tel Aviv, Bruce Harris, a Microsoft Technical evangelist, revealed that the average battery life of the device is 5.5 hours on the current version.
"HoloLens is a fully functional Windows 10 device. Anything you can do on your laptop can be performed on the HoloLens. You can connect any device with it which uses WiFi and Bluetooth," he added.
HoloLens is only available to the developers at $3000 at the moment. Developers have to apply with their idea of implementation to get hands on one of the devices.
Microsoft also declared that the core engine of their ambitious browser project, Edge, will be made open source. The core engine called ChakraCore will have its code hosted on the GitHub library.
Gaurav Seth, the principal manger of Chakra said on the blog post that, "After today anyone with Windows 7 SP1 or above, Visual Studio 2013 or above with C++ support can contribute to the library."
Lastly, Microsoft acquired a business suite from the software manufacturers Event Zero. This company is known to make business management software for Skype. Microsoft has focused on making Skype as easy for business as it is for end users from quite some time.
With this acquisition, the company wants to make meeting management, contact integration, reporting and analytics easier with Skype for business.
