In a move to safeguard dancers and make sure that they are being treated properly, the Maharashtra Government on Wednesday announced that CCTV cameras should be installed in all the dance bars that are soon to open in the state.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the state government wanted to bring in a legislation to incorporate the aspects that were earlier. As a result, in 2005, the then state government had closed them down calling it an 'evil influence' that broke up families, according to Open Magazine.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had also said recently that the state government was not in favour of opening dance bars again, reported PTI.
But now, with the Supreme Court order of 26 November 2015, which dismissed an appeal by the Maharashtra government to ban dance bars in the city, the CM wants to make sure that all the precautions are taken and all laws followed.
As a part of the process, the state government has made a list of guidelines that for dance bar operators need comply with.
These are some of the rules that the Maharashtra state government has laid down for the dance bars:
- Installing CCTV cameras for the police to monitor
- Maintaining a certain distance between the stage and the customers
- Building a three-foot high fence around the stage where the women perform
- Ban on dragging the dancers on the floor
- Ban on showering the dancers with money
- Allowing only four dancers on the floor at a particular time
"So far, all the 34 requests for new licences have been rejected as none of them fulfilled the parameters,” Fadnavis told IE.
