Marathi filmmaker Nagraj Manjule, who directed the acclaimed feature film Fandry (2014), has released two teasers that give us a glimpse of his upcoming musical Sairat.

On Friday, Variety revealed 13 titles that have been chosen for the forthcoming 66th Berlin Film Festival under its Generation section, which showcases and awards films for young audiences. Sairat has been listed as part of the Generation 14plus section, which means it will be judged by a jury made up of teenagers.

This section of the Berlin Film Festival, being held from February 11-21 this time, has seen seen two Indian films win big prizes over the past two years. In 2014, Avinash Arun's Killawon the Crystal Bear in the Generation Kplus section, which awards films made for children. This year, Nagesh Kukunoor's Dhanakwas awarded the Grand Prix in Generation Kplus as well as a special mention from the jury, comprising children under the age of 14.

Manjule's Fandry was one of the most critically-lauded Indian features of 2014. Aside from winning the Grand Jury Prize at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2013, it also won a National Award for Best First Film. Recently, Manjule won Best Director at the first ever Ajeenkya DY Patil Filmfare Awards for Marathi films. An award for Sairat in this section would mean a hat-trick for Indian films at one of the world's most prestigious film festivals and give the growing prospects of Indian cinema another welcome boost.
