NEW DELHI, INDIA - DECEMBER 13: Stranded people sit near their demolished shanties after more than 500 slums were demolished last night in an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Indian Railways at Shakur Basti, on December 13, 2015 in New Delhi, India. Slum residents created uproar after a child was found dead. They alleged that the child had died in the anti-encroachment drive. Following the horrifying death of a six-month-old girl from suffocation during the Shakur Basti slum demolition in Delhi, a baby had to be delivered by another uprooted slum dweller amid the rubble.

Just 50 metres away from where the other baby died, another baby girl was born in the midst of the rubble, in the freezing cold. The delivery took place in a tent shared by the newborn's mother, father and two little brothers, reports NDTV.

More than 500 hutments were demolished in an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Indian Railways in Shakur Basti on Saturday.

According to a report in The Indian Express, the baby's parents Manoj and Manisha took their newborn to the Bhagwan Mahavir hospital a day after her birth.

A doctor at the hospital told IE that the child was healthy but the mother’s blood pressure had shot up.

“I had to hold her down and admit her. She refused to stay back at the hospital. Her BP needed to be stabilised,” the doctor said.

On Saturday, the Railways demolished hundreds of more slums in West Delhi. The dwellers are now being forced to live in freezing conditions and are battling the extreme cold.

"They have given us blankets. But it is very cold and especially the kids are suffering in the open. People are coming and just having a glimpse but no one is doing anything," Mohd. Kuddu, one of the dwellers told ANI.

Venkaiah Naidu, minister for Urban Development, Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation had also condemned the Railway Ministry for evacuating people during the harsh Delhi winters.

Meanwhile, Manoj and Manisha's baby girl is healthy and has been admitted to the hospital nursery. She has been given all the vaccinations and is under observation.
