SRINAGAR -- An Army jawan has been martyred and two militants have been killed in a fierce gunbattle which is underway, as security forces are attempting to smoke out militants who are believed to be trapped in the Bawan forest area of Rajwar Handwara in north Kashmir's Kupwara District.

A joint team of the 21 Rashtriya Rifles and the Handwara Special Operation Group are combing the area following intelligence about hiding militants who are heavily armed.

The area has been cordoned off and reinforcements have been rushed to the encounter site.
