Bracing to stem the divisive public response to Aamir Khan's comments on intolerance in India, e-commerce retailer Snapdeal, whose products Aamir Khan endorses as brand ambassador, has formally distanced itself from Khan's comments.
On Tuesday, the company came under fire from several users on Twitter, who threatened to discontinue their use of the company's products and even uninstall the company's app. The company's press statement said:
“Snapdeal is neither connected nor plays a role in comments made by Aamir Khan in his personal capacity. Snapdeal is a proud Indian company built by passionate young Indians focused on building an inclusive digital India. Everyday we are positively impacting thousands of small businesses and millions of consumers in India. We will continue towards our mission of creating one million successful online entrepreneurs in India.”
Internet users down-voted Snapdeal's app on the Google Play Store and commented that others uninstall the app as well. "Uninstall snapdeal app #App wapsi Amir Khan plzz leave our country as soon as possible...(sic) no Deal with snapdeal just uninstaled snapdeal App," said an app store user who goes by the name Sujit Kadam.
This hasn't affected Snapdeal's rankings on the Play Store yet, according to App Annie. Snapdeal's ranking has remained constant at 27 in the the list of top apps.
Earlier in the day, Sachin Bansal, CEO of rival e-commerce company, Flipkart, tweeted his support for Snapdeal.

Aamir Khan's comments on intolerance in India and of a 'fear' that had seeped into his family, sparked a political and filmy firestorm with several co-actors and politicians suggesting that Khan was scaremongering.
