'Gerua' From 'Dilwale' Attempts To Recreate 'Suraj Hua Maddham' Magic

Does 'Gerua' Succeed In Recreating The 'Suraj Hua Maddham' Magic?

The first song from Rohit Shetty's upcoming entertainer Dilwale, 'Gerua', was launched at a star-studded launch event held at Mumbai's iconic Maratha Mandir theatre on Wednesday evening.

The film's cast, including its lead pair Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, were present at the event. Dilwale marks the return of the SRK-Kajol jodi, which was immortalised 20 years ago in Aditya Chopra's Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge. Chopra's film, the longest-running Hindi movie of all time, is still playing at Maratha Mandir.

'Gerua', which has been shot in Iceland, features extensive visual effects and is rumoured to be the most expensive Hindi song ever, according to Hindustan Times.

Since Wednesday evening, fans have noted the similarities between 'Gerua' and 'Suraj Hua Maddham' from Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001).

SRK-ARIJIT what a combo ! #Gerua has the same magic what Suraj hua maddham had. Completely soulful !! #RomanticSongOfTheYear

This dude really loved it.

And forgive me but I would rate this song much better than Suraj Hua Madhan, Tujhe Dekha Toh or any other Bollywood song ever. #Gerua

However, there seemed to be quite a few who didn't quite feel the same way.

Is Rohit Shetty getting sued by Karan? Gerua video has such a 'Suraj hua' hangover!

Failed attempts like "Gerua" are the reasons we still yearn for "Suraj Hua Maddham"

Some were turned off by the somewhat tacky special effects in the song (which, as comedian Sapan Verma put it, looks like "SRK and Kajol posing in front of Windows 98 wallpapers").

I didn't expect a suraj hua maddham 2. Only wished that the singer was Udit or Sonu. And ya the VFX and photoshop is like really bad #Gerua

#Gerua didn't do anything for me The makers tried hard 2recreate magic of SRK-Kajol chemistry but failed.looks like a poor copy of Suraj hua

To sum it all up...

Watching 'Gerua' made me feel like revisiting 'Sooraj hua maddham' & cry, "Where have you gone Shah Rukh? Come back. Bring Sonu Nigam too."

We're sorta inclined to agree. :(

Watch the video of the song at the top of this entry.
