Hyderabad Horror: 3-Year-Old Child Dies In Gruesome Elevator Accident

A three-year-old child died on Tuesday morning after her head got stuck between the elevator doors in a school in Hyderabad.

According to NDTV, Syeda Xanaib, a nursery student was inside an elevator with her classmates when the incident took place on Tuesday morning.

Local police told NDTV that the teacher was taking the children from the ground to the third floor at Sri Chaitanya School in Dilsukh Nagar when the mishap occurred. Syeda's leg slipped through the grill door and her head got pulled between the doors even as the elevator started moving, killing her instantly.

NDTV reported, angry parents surrounded the school, demanding answers as to why a nursery was being operated in a three storeyed building and whether the school had permission to build an elevator. One of the protesting parents told NDTV, "The child's father is in Dubai, working hard to earn money for her education. The school abandoned the child...It is the school's responsibility to take care of our children."

According to Deccan Chronicle, Malakpet police have filed a case against the management and few have been called in for questioning. DCP V Ravinder, who is investigating the case, told ANI that stern action will be taken as per law. NDTV reported, that the police will investigate whether the school had a lift operator. They said the school and the district education department apeeared to be guilty of negligence. "There will be serious action. We are checking if the school had permission for an elevator," said an officer.

The State Child Rights Commission has asked for examination of roles of everybody involved including district authorities. "Lifts are not allowed in nursery schools, so who gave this school permission?" Achyutha Rao, a member told NDTV.

Times Now reports that the parents have accused the school of negligence.

Tension mounted in the area as locals gathered outside the school to protest the child's death. The police was called in to control the situation.
