NEW DELHI -- Following the debacle in the Bihar assembly polls, the Parliamentary Board of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party's highest decision-making body, will be meeting here on Monday to introspect into the election result.

Media reports suggested that the BJP Parliamentary Board, of which Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a member, is likely to meet post-lunch to assess the party's defeat and ascertain the reasons.

Meanwhile, BJP president Amit Shah, while conceding defeat, congratulated Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on their massive victory.

He said his party respected the people's mandate.

Shah expressed his good wishes to the new government to take Bihar on the path of development.

हम बिहार की जनता के जनादेश का सम्मान करते हैं |

नई सरकार को मेरी शुभकामनाएं कि वह बिहार को विकास के पथ पर आगे ले जाए |

— Amit Shah (@AmitShah) November 8, 2015

Many senior party leaders, meanwhile, met Shah at his residence.

The NDA secured 58 seats, with the BJP bagging 53 seats, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party (RLSP) winning two seats each, and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM, Secular) securing one seat in the 243-seat Bihar assembly.

The Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) made a clean sweep by securing 178 of the 243 seats, with Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) winning 71 seats and the Congress Party securing 27 seats, paving the way for Nitish to form his government for a consecutive third time.

However, Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal, a constituent of the Mahagathbandhan, emerged as the single largest party by winning 80 seats, the final result for which were declared by the Election Commission at 9:28pm on Sunday.
