It did look like Siri after the early days of its launch when its maps would sent users to unchartered territory, had got its act together. But then this happens and India is in the focus.
Dusshera, a prominent Hindu festival, fell on the 22nd of October this year (yesterday). On asking their Iphones about the festival, several users discovered that Siri got the name right, but the greeting wrong: the virtual assistant wished its owners 'Eid Mubarak' (not that big a deal when you actually consider how many festivals India actually celebrates, and how easy it can be for a human, let alone a virtual assistant to mess up).
With a growing user base in India Siri has gradually come to understand an Indian accent, but the Dusshera faux pas shows that Apple's wonderwoman/ fella proves it could do with the occasional cultural upgrade.
So far, Siri's confusion has been dismissed as a humorous mistake, and has luckily not led to any lynchings.
