Many books, songs and films have romanticised our notion of one of India's most beautiful monuments -- the Taj Mahal. From moonlight walks with your beloved, to dances with large Bollywood entourages, most Indians have an intimate connection with the almost 367-year-old monument.

But if you've visited the Taj Mahal recently, you may have noticed that the immaculate white structure that Google Images throws up has somewhat changed -- now resembling the plastic or marble miniatures sold as souvenirs.

The monument, which literally means the 'crown of palaces', may have a poignant history, but we've collected thirteen images, that will show you how the Taj Mahal has changed over the years.
