BHOPAL -- A projected portion of a bridge used by pedestrians collapsed late last night, killing a couple near Bharat Talkies area here, police said today.

Though initial reports said that five persons were also injured in the incident, police later said that only one was injured.
"A couple identified as Parvati (60) and Hanuman (65) were killed in the incident," a head constable posted in Bajaria Police station said.
"Nearly 100 feet of the projected portion of a bridge used by pedestrians collapsed late last night killing those sleeping under it on road," SP, Bhopal (South) Anshuman Singh told .
A person also sustained injuries in the incident, he said.
The bridge is over three decades old and is a major way connecting Bhopal Railway Stations Platform number one and other adjoining areas to the rest of the city.
It also passes over Delhi-Chennai railway line.
Normally labourers after finishing their days work used to sleep under it.
