NEW DELHI -- The death toll of Indians at the Haj stampede has gone up to 101, external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj said on Friday morning. Meanwhile, 32 others are still missing.
"Saudi authorities have identified more pilgrims who died in Haj stampede," she tweeted on Friday. The Indian consulate in Jeddah has put up a list of Indians who have died, as well as the names of the 32 missing.
The tragic stampede outside the holy city of Mecca last month has killed at least 1,364 people according to an Associated Press report, which is 600 more than the official government death toll. This is the worst disaster to strike the Haj in a quarter century.

Nearly 1.5 lakh Indians had gone on the Haj pilgrimage to Mecca this year. The stampede occurred on 24 September when Haj pilgrims jostled their way to perform symbolic stoning of the devil in Mina at the holy Mecca, marking the culmination of the annual pilgrimage.
The tragic incident occurred outside the five-storey Jamarat Bridge, which was erected in the last decade at a cost of more than $1 billion and intended to improve safety.
