Every time you think of Anu Malik, the two scenarios that come to your mind are party songs and antakshari.
But, the man who composed songs for over 300 films has been routinely plagued by allegations of plagiarism. In fact, many of Malik's songs are said to be direct lifts from that range from Mozart and Beethoven to Deep Purple.
Now, Malik’s daughter, Anmoll has made her debut single, 'Lamhein and in the spirit of her father has--to use her own term--'recreated' Coldplay’s 2011 hit, ‘Paradise’ from their recent album Mylo Xyloto. Save for the Hindi lyrics, the melody and music are exactly the same.
Directed by Mohit Suri, the music is scored--or should we say 'recreated'--by Anu Malik. The video features Anmoll Malik with ‘Fugly’ actor Mohit Marwah, who is actor Anil Kapoor's nephew. The song has been penned by Manoj Mantoshri of ‘Galliyaan’ fame.
In a press statement, Anmoll had said that "‘Lamhein’ is about desperately seeking those moments that may never come back.”
We must admit Anmoll has done a good job with the vocals and Anu Malik has done what he does best: providing music by adapting tunes but for change, that his daughter is going about it officially.
Wonder what Coldplay thinks about this.
