An upcoming film called Darling Don't Cheat, produced and directed by debutant Rajkumar Hindusthani, may just have the tackiest, most howlarious trailer of any film you've seen this year (yep, even worse than Sabki Bajegi Band).
The trailer, which proudly proclaims that this is "a la Quentin Tarantino styled (sic)" movie, features over-the-top background music, abysmal acting, and perhaps the worst font choices humankind has seen since WordArt was a thing. At first glance, if you can even get through the entire trailer without collapsing from laughter, the movie appears to be a typical slasher flick, featuring a mysterious masked man and several nubile young women in various stages of undress.
Hindusthani has reportedly said that his film is a modern-day version of Insaf Ka Tarazu (1980), while the teaser claims that the film will have an impact comparable to previously released controversial Hindi films such as Bandit Queen (1995) and Fire (1996), due to its 'shocking' content.
In an emailed press release, Hindusthani said, "The main theme of the film, Darling Don’t Cheat is the dark side that’s hidden inside us, that animal instinct which comes out in certain situations." Therefore, to spread word about the movie, which releases on October 30, he has come up with a novel (for lack of a better word) promotional idea: an opportunity for one lucky winner to get an all-expenses paid trip to a nudist resort in Jamaica.
Not pictured: class and good taste.
What does this have to do with the movie, you might ask? "The theme of the contest is also along similar lines, to explore the dark side, but in a sexual way," said Hindusthani. "When this dark side is geared up, no moral policing can make any difference to their thoughts."
According to the release, 1 lakh applications have been received by the makers, of which they claim 30% are women from Mumbai, Pune, and Delhi. "This shows that not just men, but women too seek to explore the wild side of themselves," he said. "Some of the women said that they wanted to take revenge on husband, while the young girls said such a trip would be a cool and liberating experience. This also proves that sex and nudity are longer a taboo in our society."
