WATCH: Chennai's Women Auto-Drivers Take On The Men With Aplomb

If you're new in Chennai, and are trying to hail one of the yellow and black auto rickshaws, don't be surprised to see a horde of women autorickshaw drivers clamouring to give you a lift.

Since March 2014, hundreds of women have started driving their rickshaws on the roads.

But they've also started facing a lot of problems. Kanchana Bhaskar, an auto rickshaw driver in Chennai said, "The men drivers say, if more and more of you start driving the rickshaws, what will happen to our incomes?"

But jibes from the men — even assaults — have not deterred Bhaskar from driving, as many women prefer her over male riders. But the are getting popular by the day with several auto rickshaw companies saying that more and more women are signing up for the job.
