Once a national level boxer, Kamal Kumar, is now collecting garbage in Kanpur to support his four children, who, he hopes, will one day purse boxing at a competitive level.
Ignored by the state for decades, Kumar is still holding out hope for the government to help him.
"Starting from the district level, I have played all the way to the national level. I have three or four gold medals at the district level and two bronze medals at the state level," he said. "If the government wants then it can still give me a job and I can give my children the best training."
