Usually a chill guy on the field, Indian cricketer Ishant Sharma quite lost it on the final day of the test match between India and Sri Lanka, which India won.
It all started when the Sri Lankan pacer Dhammika Prasad bowled a series of short-pitched deliveries, according to several accounts. Furious, Sharma also returned them with visible hostility. But later, when it was Sri Lanka's turn to bat, Sharma screamed, howled and beat his own head as he took Dinesh Chandimal's wicket.
Ever the optimist, captain Virat Kohli, however, tried to look at the silver lining. “I was very happy with the incident when he was batting. It happened at the right time for us because we had to bowl on Monday and they made him angry. It could not have happened at a better time for us,” he later told the media.
After all the fiasco, Sharma and Chandimal have been handed one-match suspensions for their behaviour that breached the ICC code of conduct; while Prasad and Lahiru Thirimanne were fined 50 per cent of their match fees.
