The trailer for Angry Indian Goddesses, which premieres at the 40th Toronto International Film Festival beginning next week, was launched online on Thursday.

Directed by Pan Nalin (Samsara, Valley Of Flowers), the film is said to be India's first 'female buddy movie' (perhaps a day will come when we'll simply call them 'buddy movies'). It stars Sarah-Jane Dias, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anushka Manchanda, Sandhya Mridul, Amrit Maghera, Pavleen Gujral and Rajshri Deshpande.

Set to groovy fusion rock, the trailer reveals to us that Dias's character is set to get married and that the seven women, presumably friends, reunite for that purpose. It gives us glimpses of the various travails that the characters are facing, including heartbreak, betrayal, and dealing with men who misbehave with them.

We get it, they're angry and they're goddesses. But wait: shots of a gleaming knife lying on a road and a pistol wrapped in a newspaper suggest that there may be more to this story than meets the eye.

Watch the trailer above.
