The NH7 Weekender, one of the country's most well-attended and beloved music festivals, announced the line-up for this year's editions on Wednesday. This was done in a unique manner — instead of using their own social media accounts or having the artistes themselves announce other artistes (as was done last year), they reached out to fans and regular attendees and got them to reveal a total of 107 artiste names playing at the five editions of the festival this year (to be held in Shillong, Kolkata, Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Pune).
The biggest names playing at various legs of the festival this year are Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and British producer Mark Ronson, best known for his collaboration with Amy Winehouse (the Grammy-winning Back To Black) and Bruno Mars (the mega-hit single 'Uptown Funk'), who will reportedly be playing a DJ set. Aside from that, other big international artistes who will be making their India debut are American multi-genre producer Flying Lotus and Mexican acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela.
Also, rapper Baba Sehgal will be performing at an NH7 Weekender festival for the first time ever.
This is the sixth year for the festival, which began in 2010 with a relatively intimate multi-stage edition at Pune and has since seen attendees and venues swell year-on-year. By many accounts, it is said to be one of the best-organised music festivals in India and boasts of a loyal following that throngs its editions annually to watch a carefully curated pick of artistes — both international and homegrown; independent and obscure as well as mainstream, household names — play live. Arjun Ravi, co-founder of NH7, calls this line-up "by far the biggest we've ever done". Some names, he adds, are yet to be announced.
Here is the complete line-up of artistes across its various editions announced so far which includes, for the first time ever, a leg in Shillong, Meghalaya (popularly considered the 'rock music capital' of India). This list was compiled by Mumbai-based culture website The Daily Pao.
