He will be known with many epitaphs-- among them-- “Missile Man” and “People’s President”. Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam died in Shillong on Monday evening of a suspected cardiac arrest. He collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management and was rushed to Bethany hospital around 7 pm. He was declared dead after all efforts to revive him.
Known as the Missile Man of India, Dr Kalam had played a pivotal role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998. He was one of the most loved Presidents in the country. While in his 70s, he was nominated for the MTV Youth Icon of the Year award in 2003 and in 2006.
For his achievements, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan and Bharat Ratna.
Dr Kalam will be remembered for his inspirational quotes.
