GURDASPUR— The Home Ministry has said that there were no hostages captive at the suspected terror attack in Gurdaspur Punjab.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said no hostage situation in the Gurdaspur attack has been reported so far.

Two civilians were killed and ten injured after suspected terrorists in Army uniforms, attacked a police station in Gurdaspur, Punjab this morning.

The assailants came in a car and opened fire at a moving bus, which was coming into Punjab, from Jammu and Kashmir on the Amritsar-Pathankot highway.

According to CNN-IBN reports, four terrorists are holed up inside the police station in Dinanagar in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab and a fierce gun battle is on.

The police have also discovered five live bombs from the Pathankot-Gurdaspur railway track.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that he had spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and assured full central assistance to tackle the situation.

The MHA is monitoring the situation in Gurudaspur and Punjab. I am confident that the situation will be soon brought in control.

Spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Shri Prakash Singh Badal who apprised me of the developing situation in Gurudaspur.

Also spoke to Home Secretary and NSA regarding the situation in Gurudaspur. Security forces have been rushed to the spot.

The attackers, who were wearing Army uniform, then entered the Dinanagar Police Station and also opened fire at the police personnel. Three persons were injured there including Dinanagar SHO Mukhtiar Singh, he said.

The two sides are locked in an heavy exchange of fire, several hours after the incident, he added.

The whole area has been cordoned off and additional forces are being rushed in to Gurdaspur.

Union Home Secretary L C Goyal said he had spoken to Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini and was monitoring the situation.

Additional forces are being rushed in to Gurdaspur. Army commandos and a Quick Response Team (QRT) have also been called in.

According to this Indian Express report, the manner of taking over a car to attack a police station is also similar to the one which was adopted in Hiranagar in 2013 when three terrorists had stormed the police station there and then attacked a nearby Army unit.
