WATCH: Muslim Professor, Denied Housing In Delhi, Asks Arvind Kejriwal To Fight Religious Discrimination

NEW DELHI -- Reem Shamsudeen, an English language professor, has posted a video on her "shameful and inhuman experience" of being denied accommodation in Delhi because she is Muslim.

The visually-impaired professor from Kerala has appealed to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to fight against religious discrimination in the national capital.

"After summer vacation, when I joined the college, I got a rented flat and paid advance for me and my mother to move in," said Shamsudeen.

"The day when I'm supposed to shift in, I got the entire luggage to the new place, the landlord denied giving me the key, saying that she cannot rent her flat out to a Muslim. Of course, this was a shocking experience considering that Delhi boasts of its cosmopolitan and metropolitan nature all the time," she said.

Shamsudeen, 30, said that she never experienced this kind of discrimination in Hyderabad, while pursuing her M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D from the English and Foreign Languages University for eight years.

Worried that thousands of students are facing similar discrimination, Shamsudeen urged the "paanch-saal chief minister" to take action against religious discrimination.

"When I came here last February, the whole state was booming with the promises of AAP, how Delhi is going to change when you become chief minister." the professor said.

"I believe the state you administer, the Delhi you promised, accommodates every other citizen Bihari, Bengali, Malayali , Manipuri, Kashmiri, Goan, black, white, man, woman, transgender, gay, blind, deaf, homeless and everyone. I hope no one including our students will have to encounter this kind of shameful and inhuman experience even in future," she said.
