Delhi Police Is Knocking On Embassy Doors For The Woman Who Slapped Security Officer

NEW DELHI -- A foreign national who allegedly slapped former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's security personnel is believed to be a diplomat, police said.

Delhi Police, which is on the lookout for a woman who was caught on camera for allegedly slapping ASI Om Prakash, is visiting several embassies looking for the woman whose identity is yet to be ascertained. Prakash is posted with the PM Security wing of police and had lodged a complaint against the woman after she slapped him for not allowing her inside an event, citing security protocol.

The police visited the Turkish Embassy, as the woman appeared to be of Turkish origin. They questioned staff there and quizzed a woman diplomat there, according to sources. They will also visit the Israel Embassy after that, police said.

Police registered a case yesterday evening against "unknown persons" for assaulting a public servant and obstructing them from performing their duty. They have zeroed in on some women foreign nationals part of the invitation list for the book launch where the alleged incident took place.

Of the 294 people invited for the event, 185 people were already inside the auditorium when the incident took place last Friday. Police are going through the list of the rest of the 109 people who did not make it inside on account of being late or not turning up for the event.

While the Delhi Police top brass has instructed investigators to identify the suspect immediately, the district police will give a detailed report on their findings to senior police officials by today evening.
