A train derailed in Jharkhand on Tuesday night after suspected Maoists blew up railway tracks. No casualties or injuries were reported.
The incident was reported in Latehar district at 8 pm on Tuesday, when the Palamu Express was on its way from Barkakna to Patna. The engine and three coaches of the train jumped the rails following the blast near Kuchila village between Chhipadohar and Barwadih stations, PTI reported Chhipadohar railway station master R P Bhagotia as saying. The Deputy Inspector General of Police (Palamau Range) Saket Kumar Singh confirmed there were no injuries.
The Communist Party of India (Maoist), which the Indian government has labelled as an extremist left-wing terrorist outfit, was observing a 24-hour bandh on Tuesday in Bihar and Jharkhand to protest against the gunning down of their cadres in Palamau district on June 9.
