Last Wednesday, we wrote about the hilariously profane 'Mohalla Assi' trailer, which features Sunny Deol, and spoke about how the film is about more than just profanity, ganja, and other Varanasi clichés. Based on award-winning writer Dr Kashinath Singh's popular novel 'Kashi Ka Assi', the film is slated to release later in the year and is a satirical look at a changing Varanasi.

However, a social organisation named Sarvajan Jagruti Sanstha has taken offence to the abusive language in the trailer and filed an FIR against Deol and the film's director, Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi. According to an NDTV report, their complaint is that the film violates moral ethics, hurts religious sentiments, and, finally, shows Varanasi in a poor light.

In an interview to The Indian Express in 2011, Dr Singh had expressed regret about how his novel's profane content, which he said was part of the "local flavour", had led to it being dismissed. "Logon ne use gaaliyon ka pulinda hee man liya (people dismissed it as a collection of abuses)," he had said.
