Mahmood Farooqui, who co-directed Peepli Live with wife Anusha Rizvi, was arrested by the Delhi Police after an American woman filed a complaint accusing him of rape.

The complaint was filed June 19 in south Delhi's New Friends Colony police station. The police arrested Farooqui under IPC 376, and subsequently a local court sent him to six days of judicial custody.

Peepli Live was produced by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in 2010, and the satirical comedy had released to critical acclaim.
