Launching an all-out attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress Party Vice President Rahul Gandhi demanded that he sack External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for helping Lalit Modi, former IPL commissioner, procure travel documents from the U.K.
Lalit Modi, who is being investigated for money laundering and FEMA violations, is a fugitive from Indian law. Swaraj said on Sunday that she was helping Modi on "humanitarian" grounds so that he could attend to his wife who was undergoing cancer treatment in Lisbon in August, 2014.
"Mr. Modi should sack Sushma Swaraj," said Gandhi on Monday.
Gandhi taunted Modi for promising to bring black money back to India, but instead he was "standing behind" Mr. Lalit Modi, who he described as the "black money master."
"Mr. Narendra Modi should stop protecting Lalit Modi," he said. "Mr. Modi is standing behind Mr. Modi."
Shortly after Gandhi had spoken, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar hit back that it was the Congress Party that had allowed Lalit Modi to leave the country.
