Talks to resolve the stand-off over the issue of five percent reservation for Gujjars in government jobs entered its eighth day with a spokesperson for their delegation saying that a breakthrough is likely during the fresh parleys after the Rajasthan government expressed its inability to meet their demands.
"A government official told us that a fresh proposal to meet our demands would be made today, so we are staying on to hold the next round of the talks. A breakthrough is likely today," Himmat Singh, spokesperson for the Gujjar Arakshan Sangharh Samiti, told PTI.
While parleys between the Gujjars and the government continue, the High Court has also summoned the Rajasthan DGP and the Chief Secretary to appear before it to share what action has been taken to remove rail and road blockade put up as part of the Gujjar agitation.
"The High Court asked administration about the steps taken to maintain peace in Rajasthan and to calm the Gujjar agitation. There is another hearing tomorrow. Affidavit, progress report has to be filed by administration," public prosecutor Laxmikant told ANI.
Following the High Court's orders to vacate the tracks and roads, the District Collector and I.G. Police of Bharatpur earlier had held talks with Col. Kirori Singh Bainsla and other leaders last night. The Dausa Collector had also issued a notice to the agitating Gujjars in Sikandra to clear the Jaipur-Agra national highway but there are no signs of the dharna being lifted as yet.
