Thinking of the number of resident scholars (aka hostellers), working people and snackers who turn to Maggi noodles for the most awesome 2-minute food available is mind boggling.I've always respected Nestle's skill in making processed and semi-processed foods and the introduction of wheat flour and rice noodles (not to forget Lean Cuisine) takes that respect up a few notches.Featured chopsticks graciously provided by teemus.

NEW DELHI — With the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) in Uttar Pradesh ordering Nestle India to recall a batch of Maggi noodles from shops across the country, several bachelors, hostel-dwellers and young cooks have become despondent.

According to a report, this particular batch of Maggi Noodles had a high lead content -- almost 17.2 parts per million (ppm) -- nearly seven times the permissible limit. In fact, scientists also found high levels of added monosodium glutamate (MSG), a taste enhancer, in the noodles.

They should have printed 'maggi is injurious to health' on the packet instead of banning it. #MaggiBan #UP

"Maggi instant noodles contained dangerous amount of lead and MSG. We had to immediately issue orders against the company," DG Srivastava, deputy inspector general of the FDA in Lucknow, told Reuters.
