Research by the Facebook Data Science team has mapped out the most popular IPL teams in India, and Tamil Nadu’s Chennai Super Kings has emerged as the most liked team, painting more than 50 percent of the district-level colour coded map in India yellow.
The Facebook Fandom Map shows how every team is the most supported team in their home states, with the exception of Delhi Daredevils, who aren’t having a good IPL season, with only five wins in 14 matches so far. It would seem that it is currently India's most unloved IPL team.
In states that do not have an IPL team, the Chennai Super Kings emerged as crowd favourites. It's unclear why Kolkata Knight Riders have so many fans in Kashmir, however!
Interestingly, the CSK Facebook page has over 11 million likes, Mumbai Indians has 8.9 million, while Kolkata Knight Riders has 12 million fans.
According to Facebook, over 26 million people worldwide had nearly 250 million Facebook interactions around IPL from April 1 through May 10, with 19 million people from India accounting for nearly 200 million interactions.
According to the latest reported stats, Facebook has over 112 million users in India, their second largest base after the US. Facebook claimed 99 million monthly users checked their service once a month, and 45 million checked into Facebook daily.
