NEW DELHI — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district as 'historic' and said this will help in establishing peace in the region.

"Honourable Prime Minister's visit to Dantewada to my mind is a very historic visit because Dantewada today is the hot bed of naxalism in this country. This is a place where no Prime Minister would want to visit. It is a highly sensitive area and the entire Bastar region including Dantewada and one or two adjoining districts," BJP spokesperson G.V.L Narasimha Rao told ANI.

"I think today by inaugurating some major developmental projects in that region, the Prime Minister is sending out a very positive message to the people of the region, people of Dantewada and the nearby areas who have actually been the victims of Naxal terror. This visit will mark a turnaround in the violence prone region and will help establish peace and ushering development in the region," he added.

The BJP leader also lashed out at the Congress Party for making unwarranted comments over the Prime Minister's visit.

"For the Congress Party to make politics out of it is very disgusting. The Congress Party should be really able to understand what is the national interest and what is political interest and to try and make political commentary on this is extremely unfortunate and speaks of Congress' real intentions and real face," Rao said.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the education city and Livelihood College in Dantewada.

The Prime Minister will be addressing a public meeting besides interacting with the children and youth from the tribal communities.

The MoUs related to two mega infrastructure projects ultra mega steel plant and extension of second phase of Rowghat-Jagdalpur railway line will be signed in the Prime Minister's presence.
